Introduction

In Lancaster, Lancashire, the United Kingdom, Lancaster University—officially The University of Lancaster—is a public research university. The university was one of many new universities founded in the 1960s and was formed by royal charter in 1964. Three of the new establishments, Lancaster, the University of York, and the University of Kent, were created as college universities. Prior to moving to a purpose-built campus of 300 acres (120 hectares) at Bailrigg in 1968, the university had its initial headquarters in St. Leonard's Gate in the heart of the city. In honor of its first chancellor, Princess Alexandra, the campus buildings are built around a central corridor called "The Spine," which connects to a central square called "Alexandra Square". https://www.lancaster.ac.uk/study/international-students/pre-sessional-english-language/postgraduate-students/
