Introduction

Queen Mary University of London, also referred to as QM or just QM, is a constituent college of the federal University of London and a public research university in London, United Kingdom. After Mary of Teck, Queen of the United Kingdom, Queen Mary College was founded in 1785 as the London Hospital Medical College and was admitted to the University of London in 1915. Westfield College and Queen Mary College combined to establish Queen Mary and Westfield College in 1989. In 1995, two prestigious medical colleges—St. Bartholomew's Hospital Medical College, founded in 1843, and the London Hospital Medical College, England's first medical school, founded in 1785—merged with Queen Mary and Westfield College. It is acknowledged as one of Europe's most elite universities. Queen Mary is consistently rated as one of the best universities in the UK, in Europe, and among the top 100 worldwide. It was recently listed as one of London's top 5 institutions. The alumni, present personnel, and former employees of Queen Mary University include six Nobel laureates. With additional campuses in Holborn, Smithfield, and Whitechapel, Queen Mary's main campus is situated in the East End of London's Mile End neighborhood. It has 4,000 employees and 17,000 full-time students[5]. It has an annual revenue of £350 million, of which about £100 million comes from grants and contracts for research. There are 21 academic departments and institutes spread among Queen Mary's three faculties, the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, the Faculty of Science and Engineering, and Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry. It is one of the University of London's major colleges. Queen Mary is a part of Universities UK, the Association of Commonwealth Universities, and the Russell Group of top British research universities. The world's largest academic health science center, UCL Partners, includes Queen Mary as one of its key centers for medical education and research. With the University of Warwick, it has a strategic alliance that includes research collaboration and cooperative undergraduate English, history, and computer science teaching. In order to administer programs at the University of London Institute in Paris, Queen Mary additionally works with Royal Holloway, University of London. The four earlier colleges Queen Mary College, Westfield College, St. Bartholomew's Hospital Medical College, and the London Hospital Medical College were merged over time to form Queen Mary. In order to create "Queen Mary & Westfield College," Westfield College and Queen Mary combined in 1989. Although instruction at the London Hospital Medical College began in 1785, it wasn't until 1995 that it was incorporated into Queen Mary. In the same year, Queen Mary & Westfield College's School of Medicine and Dentistry was created by the union of the two medical institutions. While keeping its official name of Queen Mary and Westfield College, the college changed its working name to Queen Mary, University of London in 2000. The institution's official name was changed to Queen Mary University of London in 2013.
