Introduction
In the English city of Coventry, there is a public research university called Coventry University. Prior to being granted university status in 1992, it was known as Coventry Polytechnic and Lanchester Polytechnic until being formed as a university by the Further and Higher Education Act of 1992. The University of Warwick and Coventry University are the two universities in the city, with Coventry University having more than 27,000 students (as of 2013). It has two campuses: one in London and one in Coventry's city center, where the majority of the university's operations take place. A $160 million refurbishment effort is now being carried out on the Coventry campus. The university comprises four faculties and one school, and manages a number of commercial subsidiaries that provide business services to local and national organisations.The university is a member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities,University Alliance and Universities UK.
