The Institution of Hertfordshire is a public research university in Hertfordshire, England, United Kingdom (often known as Hertfordshire or just Herts). Most of the university's operations are headquartered in Hatfield, Hertfordshire. Hatfield Technical College, its predecessor organization, was established in 1952 and listed as one of the 25 Colleges of Technology in the United Kingdom in 1959. The British government gave Hatfield Polytechnic university status in 1992; as a result, it was renamed University of Hertfordshire. Since receiving university status, Hertfordshire's enrollment has grown consistently.
