Introduction

In the North East of England, in the city of Sunderland, is the University of Sunderland. The university, which has 20,887 students, was one of six to make the 2012 Times Higher Education Supplement Awards shortlist for "University of the Year." The Guardian University Guide 2012 also rated it the North East's best new university. In addition to one in London, there are two campuses in Sunderland. The Sir Tom Cowie Campus at St. Peter's and City Campus in Sunderland are the two campuses. On the north bank of the River Wear, where Benedict Biscop constructed St. Peter's Church and Monastery in 674 AD, St. Peter's opened in the 1990s. There are four academic faculties at the university, and they are in charge of academic growth and research as well as collaboration with business and industrial partners. The Faculties are supported by a number of service departments that are in charge of a variety of tasks such student welfare and housing. These departments also have teams in charge of managing the university's property, finances, and human resources. The University of Sunderland was placed 77th out of 116 universities in The Guardian League Tables for 2015.
