Introduction

Over 21,000 students attend the University of Brighton in the UK, which has 2,500 employees and five campuses in Brighton, Eastbourne, and Hastings on the south coast of England. Its beginnings can be found in 1859 with the opening of the Brighton School of Art in the Brighton Royal Pavilion. The university places a strong emphasis on professional education, and the majority of degrees conferred also result in professional certifications in disciplines including pharmacy, engineering, and information technology. In the People & Planet's Green League table of UK universities ranked by environmental and ethical performance in 2012, the University of Brighton placed third. There are 5 campuses for the university. Along with one each in Eastbourne and Hastings, there are three locations in Brighton—Grand Parade, Moulsecoomb, and Falmer. The University of Brighton recognises degree-level programmes offered at a variety of partner institutions in Sussex and Surrey as part of its commitment to increasing access to higher education. The KLC School of Design in London and the London School of Osteopathy both have their higher education courses approved by the University of Brighton.
