Introduction

Scotland's only public autonomous art school, the Glasgow School of Art (GSA), offers university-level courses and research in fine art, architecture, and design. One of Glasgow's most renowned structures, thought to be Charles Rennie Mackintosh's masterpiece and constructed between 1897 and 1909, serves as the school's home. In May 2014, a fire badly destroyed the structure. The School is divided into three academic schools, each with its own academic programs and research centers: the Mackintosh School of Architecture (named after Charles Rennie Mackintosh, who is also the GSA's most illustrious graduate), the School of Design, and the School of Fine Art. The Digital Design Studio, which specializes in 3D visualisation and interaction, the Forum for Critical Inquiry, which offers a variety of non-studio-based learning, teaching, and research, and the Graduate School are all available in addition to the three schools. The GSA also has a long history of offering non-degree programs, such as leisure classes.
