Bangor University, which was founded in 1884, is among the top 40 research universities in the UK and blends traditional academic quality with cutting-edge research and technology. According to the most recent evaluation of research quality, the Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2014, Bangor University's research has a significant global impact. In comparison to the norm for UK universities, the REF found that more than three-quarters of Bangor's research is either world-leading or internationally good. More than half of Bangor's academic schools have received top-20 rankings in the UK for the caliber of their research.
