Introduction

Cardiff University is a public research university in Cardiff, Wales, in the United Kingdom. Its Welsh name is Prifysgol Caerdydd. The University College of South Wales and Monmouthshire was established in 1883. In 1893, it was one of the founding institutions of the University of Wales. In 1999, it became an independent university that conferred its own degrees. The university is the second-oldest in Wales. It belongs to the Russell Group, a prestigious group of British research universities.
