Introduction

The public research institution Loughborough University is situated in the East Midlands of England in the market town of Loughborough, Leicestershire (abbreviated as Lough for post-nominals). Although it has been a university since 1966, the institution was founded in 1909 as the Loughborough Technical Institute, with a concentration on information and abilities that would be immediately useful in the real world. The old broadcast center at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, which became a second campus in 2015, was purchased by the university in March 2013. It was a part of the 1994 Group until November 2013, when the group disbanded. Loughborough is renowned for its sports-related courses and accomplishments and rates particularly strongly in engineering and technology. In recognition of the importance of its research, the university just received its eighth Queen's Anniversary Prize. Quacquarelli Symonds has also awarded the university a five-star rating for excellence under its QS Star Scheme.
