Introduction

With campuses in Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire, the University of Bedfordshire is a public university in England. The University of Luton and the Bedford campus of De Montfort University were combined, with Privy Council authorisation, to form the new institution in August 2006. There are about 24,000 students there, including almost 3,000 from other countries. Four campuses make up the university: two in Bedfordshire, in Bedford and Luton; two in Buckinghamshire, in Aylesbury for nursing and midwifery students; and one in Milton Keynes for business studies, electrical engineering, and telecommunications courses. The university participated in the Research Assessment Exercise in 2008 and received a GPA of 2.087, with 34.7% of its scores being considered world-leading or internationally good. Communication, Cultural and Media Studies, Social Work, Social Policy and Administration, and English Language and Literature had the highest scoring units. It received FairTrade certification in 2012.
