Introduction

The Institution of Oxford is a college research university situated in Oxford, England (often known as Oxford University or simply Oxford). Although there is no record of its founding, there is evidence that classes were held as early as 1096, making it the second-oldest surviving university in the world and the oldest in the English-speaking region. Since Henry II forbade English students from enrolling at the University of Paris in 1167, it has expanded quickly. Some professors moved to Cambridge in the northeast following problems between students and Oxford town residents in 1209, where they founded what would become the University of Cambridge. Oxford is a term that is frequently used to refer to both "old universities". The university is composed of numerous organizations, including 38 constituent colleges and a wide range of academic departments that are divided into four divisions. As a part of the university, each of the colleges is an independent organization that controls its own membership and has its own internal structure and operations. Because it is a city university, all the buildings and amenities are dispersed around the city's central business district.
