Glasgow, Scotland is home to the Institution of Strathclyde, a public research university. With its founding as the Andersonian Institute in 1796 and its Royal Charter as the first technological university in the UK in 1964, it is the second-oldest university in Glasgow. It gets its name from the legendary Strathclyde Kingdom. The University of Strathclyde has students and staff from more than 100 different nations, making it the third-largest university in Scotland in terms of enrollment.
